3 Tips For Feeling Confident In Your Post Baby Body This Summer

If you live in a similar climate to me, sunny rays and long days are approaching us after months of cold weather! Like you, I could not be more excited to catch some sunshine!

This summer is a little bit different for me, I am a first time mama with a new baby as well as a new body that I am growing to love.

Now some mama’s bodies don’t change if or at all throughout pregnancy and post baby and some do - we are all so beautifully different in the way we carry our babies and heal after them.

For me, my post baby body is something I’ve had to grow comfortable with over the past four months. I was so used to rocking out my mini abs and toned legs - not so much the case now. Even though, I’m still working towards my own personal body goals, I knew it would be foolish to let my insecurities control what I wore this summer and more importantly how I felt about myself in my summer wear!

Here are my top three tips for feeling like the beautiful mama you are in your post baby body this summer!

  1. Find yourself some swimmers you feel confident in!

This one was huge for me! Being 4 months postpartum I’m definitely not ready to get back in to my post Mila teeny mini kini’s (side note: I’m not sure I ever will be, you may be feeling the same - and that is okay).

I was so happy to partner with Kortni Jeane Swimwear to choose a new set of swimmers that I feel best compliment my post baby body!

I chose two pieces from their Encore Collection - the Sweetheart Top in Taupe size small and the Ruffle Leg High Waist bottoms in Coral Berry size small. I felt truly beautiful when I put this set on. The suit is made of such thick luxy quality and the high waisted bottoms love you in all the right places.

I truly feel ready to rock this summer in my Kortni Jeane Swimmers. I even took them for a spin out at my cabin and enjoyed some time relaxing on the dock. Check them out at www.kortnijeane.com

2. do not compare yourself to others - please don’t do it

Your long time best friend, the girl sitting next to you at the beach, the model on your IG feed. All three of these women have one thing in common - they are not you - it is as simple as that. Their bodies are unique to them and yours to you. Comparing yourself to them would rob you of the enjoyment this warm weather brings!

I know that If I were to sit here and compare myself to all of the women surrounding me prior to heading out this Summer, I would probably rarely leave my house and I would definitely not enjoy my time when I did leave.

I know it is hard to avoid - trust me - the socially constructed idea of beauty is everywhere we turn. I try to remember that not one soul on this planet is entirely happy with their body when I find myself comparing my body to others. We were not meant to all look the same - so go on and rock what you got!

3. shift your mindset

I’m guilty of feeling downright disappointed with my new postpartum body. I felt this way for a good couple of months until my Mom looked me in the eye and told me, “Nikki, your body may look different but it has given you the biggest blessing”.

This made me feel a new sense of gratitude for my postpartum figure. I let these words remind that my body gave the beautiful baby snuggled in my arms instead of feeling burdened by all the ‘work’ I had to do to return back to my pre Mila self.

I want to note that these tips are not a one and done cure for postpartum body blues, but they do help If you’re struggling with feeling confident in your post baby body. If you can, try and remember each new line, mark, and curve is a part of the changing person you became when you entered motherhood. Some will grow with you, some will fade away, but these changes will serve as a permanent momento to the gorgeous life you brought in to the world.
