Mila’s Story: Our little Miracle

PCOS pregnancy story.

Mila entered the world on December 28th, 2019 at 10:29 in the morning after 7 active hours of laboring and 29 minutes of pushing. She was 7lbs and 2oz of pure heaven. Her father and I instantly fell in love. This was my dream come true - she made me a Mother. Now, this little bundle of love was most definitely not planned, she appeared in our lives when we least expected it - in the most unlikely way.

Here’s some backstory, I (along with many other women around the globe) was diagnosed with PCOS - Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome - and pre-diabetes a few years back. To sum up - PCOS is essentially a whack of hormone imbalances that really throws off the female body and in short, can cause a woman to experience amenorrhea or the total loss of a menstrual cycle.

I was that woman, I had not had a menstrual cycle in more than a year and a half prior to little Mila’s existence. Because of this, I was in and out of testing for the various cysts and pain in my ovaries. It was through some of these ultrasound exams that I was told it would be highly unlikely I could fall pregnant naturally - if at all. I was devastated for a good couple of months and took the time I needed to grieve this news. My partner and I actually started looking into adoption applications, going over the processes required and necessary steps to take.

No later than 3 months after hearing this news, I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. My Dr. called me in - she couldn’t believe it, we were all in shock. Throughout my pregnancy, I had many Dr.’s ponder how this was possible without the use of metformin or IVF. The answer, my friends, is a little something called spontaneous ovulation. By some fluke of nature, my body just so happened to ovulate at the exact right time to create little Mila - and I am so grateful.

To this day, I can’t help but think someone truly wanted us to have her in our lives, our little miracle. Who knows if this could happen again for us but I’m a big believer in fate, so what shall be will be.
